Project description
|
The SAFE Paediatrics South Africa project is an action research project that seeks to train as many anaesthesia providers in essential paediatric anaesthesia as possible. Additionally, the project plans to create a sustainable training model that can be embedded in the national health system. The project aims to: - Engage a SAFE research fellow to identify the current level of training, support, supervision, outcomes and facilities for anaesthesia care for children - Provide refresher training for both physician and the small number of non-physician anaesthetists in the essentials of paediatric anaesthesia to equip these non-specialist anaesthesia providers (mainly general practitioners) with practical and clinical insights to improve the safe perioperative care of children. - Establish a SAFE Paediatrics faculty to support the course rollout to rural hospitals. The project will start in Gauteng, which is where the local partner is based, moving on to areas of higher need in Limpopo and Mpumalanga after demonstration of proof of concept.
